Sharon Reed

June 11, 1943 — March 25, 2016

Sharon V. Reed, 72, died peacefully surrounded by her sisters and other family on March 25, 2016 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Sharon was born to Guy Ralph & Ruth Reed on June 11, 1943 at home in Overland Park, Kansas. She attended several one room country schools. Her family moved to Lenexa, Kansas where she finished grade school. She attended Hocker Grove Junior High and then graduated in 1961 from Shawnee Mission North High School.

Upon graduation Sharon began her working career at 3 Sisters. She then worked at Guaranteed Foods for several years. Sharon finished her career as a billing specialist for Sprint and retired in 2006.  Sharon loved all her dogs and referred to them as her “kids.” She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family and never missed a birthday without sending her “Standard $5.” She also liked crocheting, playing cards, NASCAR and music by Pitbull. Sharon knew that the greatest gift she could give was that of self.

Sharon was preceded in death by her companion of more than 20 years, Joseph “Joe” McCann; her mother and father, Ruth and Guy Ralph Reed; her nephew Timothy Leaton and five beloved dogs.  She is survived by her seven sisters: Ruth (Roger) Leaton, Barbara (Brian) Chace, Bonnie (Rod) Wilson, Virginia “Ginny” Harding, Sandy Slane, Robin Reed and Tracie Reed; 15 nieces and nephews; 34 great nieces and nephews; and her dog Lily.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Both will be held at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas. Sharon will be cremated and a burial will be held at Belton Cemetery at a later date.

Charitable contributions may be made to Council of the Blind, Grandview Animal Hospital or the Kansas City Hospice House.
